Job Summary:

The SMH Level 3 Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal (GI) procedures is responsible for providing skilled nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures. This includes patient assessment, sedation administration, monitoring vital signs, assisting physicians during procedures, and ensuring proper documentation. The role demands expertise in conscious sedation, telemetry monitoring, and recovery from general anesthesia, with a strong emphasis on patient safety and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

• Answer patient questions and address concerns related to endoscopy/GI procedures.
• Observe and monitor patient vital signs throughout the procedure.
• Administer sedation and IV medications as required.
• Recover patients following procedures, including managing recovery from general anesthesia.
• Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Assist physicians during endoscopy and GI procedures.
• Complete all necessary documentation including patient notes and discharge paperwork.
• Perform patient intake and assessment for GI procedures.
• Perform telemetry monitoring and rhythm identification during patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in endoscopy procedures.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY).
• ACLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY).
• Expertise in conscious sedation administration.
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm identification.
• Expert IV insertion skills.
• Experience in recovering patients from general anesthesia.
• Ability to perform patient intake for GI procedures.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system in endoscopy or GI specialty within the last year.

Special Considerations:

• On-call availability required for overnight and weekend shifts.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced procedural environment.

Scheduling:

• Monday through Friday schedule, 8am to 8pm.
• Option to work either 5 shifts of 8 hours or 4 shifts of 10 hours.
• On-call duties for nights and weekends are mandatory.
